About:
The clients came to me having just bought a small character Queenslander in a tightly held pocket of Shorncliffe. A young family committed to the area, looking to build a home they could grow into. The brief was to retain and refresh the original cottage facade, then extend at the rear with a split-level addition: more bedrooms, a new bathroom, new master bedroom, proper storage, and an outdoor zone with a deck, pool, and pool house. The design had to work carefully within the site's character overlay and navigate the constraints of lifting the existing home to create usable undercroft space below. A tight 405sqm block with a lot asked of it, but that's often where the most interesting design work happens.
